Thank you to those who attended the January Instagram training session. I truly appreciate you being able to change dates due to the snow storm a few days before the original date. It was great teaching you all new things about Instagram and you all had great questions! It was great watching you connect the dots and your ideas were really good. I look forward to watching you grow your fan base and increase the interactions!! We all like more likes and I know you will get them using what you learned in the class.
Best of luck to you!!
I’m also glad you enjoyed my snacks.
If you are interested in signing of for a Instagram class or for any other social media, check back here or like my Facebook Page. All classes will be posted in my events as I schedule them.
I was reviewing my old blog posts and realized that is has been too long since I’ve written an article about Twitter. It’s time to fix that!
As much as some people say Twitter is on it’s way out, I still find it beneficial. Having a few tools to help you is hugely helpful!! Because Twitter does require more attention than other social media, having the right tools can ease the stress and time requirements most people think is needed to manage Twitter.
If you have a blog, use plug-ins to auto post new and old posts. Having randomly scheduled tweets can be a huge time saver. When someone responds or likes your tweet, you can get the notification and off you go. If no activity, then you didn’t waist your time. I even go into my plug-ins from to change the settings so my tweets differently or remove a topic for awhile just to spice it up.
If you don’t have a blog, using Hootsuite can be helpful too. Hootsuite’s free optionis a great tool that allows you to schedule post. It takes more time than the previous option but is still a great alternative. I love Hootsuite when I’m chatting with others on Twitter!! It makes it easier to follow the conversation by allowing you to follow a particular hashtag. Sometimes when you use the Twitter app, or log in your computer, some of the comments can be lost. Hootsuite is more thorough with collecting the related hashtags.
If learning ANOTHER thing sounds like too much, share your other social media posts, like Instagram or YouTube, on Twitter. Doing so will:
Help build your reach and followers on the other accounts
Give you more content options
Allows you to re-share older content (great option when you draw a blank)
Sharing another post on Twitter is like multitasking!
When it comes to the holidays, things get hectic. Being that today is my first easy day since Thanksgiving, I get it. If it wasn’t a holiday party or a church function, then it was something else that required cooking, shopping and/or cleaning.
To make your site more festive, you can have your web designer (or me) add a cute holiday statement or add a red bow to your existing header.
It can be simple to make your social media more festive. Replace the header images with a nice photo of the staff in holiday gear. Add a red (or gold) bow to the existing header or your profile image. When the season is over, you can switch it back. If that sounds like too much trouble, how about a winter scene. Do you have a tree near your office that changes during the seasons? Use it to your advantage.
Be sure to post holiday related items. People love sharing, seeing, listening to posts of Christmas “flash mobs” so find an existing post and share it yourself! Cute Christmas photos of the office tree or office staff decked out in holiday gear are also popular. And let’s be honest, what is cuter than the furry office staff in antlers or a elf costume?
Merry Christmas from the staff here at PetreyDish.Com!! We hope you have a great holiday season and a Happy New Year!
And…
These images were creating using free images from Google and using a free app called Photo Grid. For those who don’t have access to expensive photo creating and editing software, there are tons a professional looking free images online that you can use and free apps that allow you to add text and graphics to those images. This is great for creating quick, visual posts for holidays, events, memes (a funny caption added to a photo) and more. Once these images are created you can post them on any other social media, your website, in print products and more.
Since the last time I wrote, Times Are Still Changing and Time Is Always Changing I’m continuing to read various books like “A Year of Yes” by Shonda Rhimes and “What the Most Successful People do Before Breakfast” by Laura Vanderkam. If you have an Audible account, I highly recommend them. I love Audible because I can listen to books on my phone, computer or tablet while I drive to an appointment or hit the gym (Multitasking for the win!). For business and life, both books are great!
Since my last update about changes I have continued to:
Create other Social Media Training PowerPoint and Handouts (Surprise!!)
Get supplies needed to take my presentations up a level
Participate in various seminars
Learning more about YouTube
Teaching InDesign to church ladies
Teaching WordPress to church men
Working on several websites for clients
Deleted a personal Twitter (no time) and Foursquare accounts (hoped Foursquare would go back to it’s old ways. It didn’t, so BYE!)
Learning Snapchat. I’m liking it!
And I’m learning Lightroom and I’m in love!!
Future goals include:
Scheduling the Training Sessions
Updating my time lapse gear
And a few other surprises to be announced later!

In a previous post, I talked about learning YouTube. As someone who knows little about making videos but knows that videos are growing in popularity on social media. Longer Instagram videos, Snapchat videos, Facebook, Vine and more. I use YouTube to edit my videos in multiple ways, easy posting to G+ and other great reasons (like it’s free and has free music to enhance your video).
Here are some great stats full straight from YouTube, if you decide to dive into it, or revisit it.
YouTube has over a billion users — almost one-third of all people on the Internet — and every day people watch hundreds of millions of hours on YouTube and generate billions of views.
YouTube overall, and even YouTube on mobile alone, reaches more 18-34 and 18-49 year-olds than any cable network in the U.S.
Growth in watch time on YouTube has accelerated and is up at least 50% year over year for three straight years.
The number of people watching YouTube per day is up 40% y/y since March 2014.
The number of users coming to YouTube who start at the YouTube homepage, similar to the way they might turn on their TV, is up more than 3x y/y.
y/y means Year-on-Year or Year-Over-Year.
YouTube is free, and you can even make money by allowing commercials to play before your video. It also allows for editing including making videos time lapse style, creating slow motion videos, editing coloring, etc. Once you have the video the way you want it, you can download it and sent it to other social media. It also gives the an easy way to add videos to your website with the embedding code it makes for you.
I am having so much fun with my business right now. I am truly enjoying myself!! I thought it would be interesting to create time lapse videos to show more behind the scenes of what I do and my clients do. It’s been a lot of fun learning something new and showcasing the behind the scenes.
Another Virginia United Methodist Conference in the books. As part of the Board of Communications, we held a workshop and dinner at Annual Conference in Roanoke, VA. We had 6 topics and 4, 20 minute sessions. We did speed dating style sessions where the attendees moved from table to table every 20 minutes, picking their top 4 interests. Topics included, Twitter, Facebook, websites, blogging, email marketing and Instagram and Snapchat together. I did the Instagram and Snapchat session. We discussed the rise in popularity in both social media and how Instagram is compatible with other social media where Snapchat is not.
The day before the workshop, USA Today published an article about Snapchat (Divine Gift? Divine Placement?) which I showed the attendees and highlighted key points. I passed out handouts full of great information about Snapchat. I also explained how Snapchat is so different from other social media and we even talked about creating their own filter for their church and/or church function. They asked questions and I answered them. It was so much fun!
I had forgotten how much I enjoy teaching these sessions. It’s time to schedule more training sessions about various social media.
