Facebook is Changing

Facebook has made a lot of changes lately. Some are new and some not so new but are just now being discovered by others. Galleries have changed, wall postings are slightly different and more.
Facebook makes pages for companies even if there is a company page already. You can claim the page and merge it with your existing page by clicking the “claim as your own” The number on the page must match yours otherwise it won’t work.
Speaking of pages, they have updated the layouts. Updated pages moved the tabs from across the top to now being listed on the left. The admin section is now to the right instead of to the left and many other noticeable changes. You can adjust which tabs are visible by going through the admin section. Under Settings, click “Edit Page” to adjust your tabs.
Privacy settings have been a huge conversation for many people. I see warnings from friends that are still going around more than 4 years later for a setting that Facebook changed. If you are curious about privacy settings, ASK!! I am happy to review things with you. Not having your privacy settings set high enough means that your information is an open book, literally. Personal pictures you may not want to be seen by your boss or potential employer!! If you haven’t seen any of the stories about being fired over social media posts, feel free to Google it! Don’t say I didn’t warn you. If in doubt, don’t post it. On the other hand, having them set too high and even your best friend won’t be able to find you.
To adjust your privacy settings click on Account then Privacy Settings. Take your time, read carefully and adjust as needed. Do what makes you comfortable. Note: Keep in mind that all the games you play, “liked” artists, musicians, etc and can see your information as well.
Do you know you can create lists?
You can put your friends into lists. If you have business associates that you would prefer NOT see pictures of your vacation in Bahamas or pictures of your babies in the bathtub, you can put them in a list and set your settings so those on that list can’t see said items. To create a list:
- Hover over your friend’s “friend” button
- Click on “add to list”
- Pick “new list”
- Type list title
- Hit enter.
Lists are awesome. It’s a fast way to create an invite list, block certain information from a list and so on. Do a lot of networking or create several Facebook events? Make a “networking” list for quick event invites.
To put restrictions on galleries you:
- Click on the specific album
- Click on “edit Album info”
- Change the privacy setting to that album.
Note: This is for a particular album and not ALL the albums at once.
