If you are debating if your website needs to be smartphone friendly or want to know what’s working and what isn’t, having Google Analytics could help you determine that. Analytics will let you know, what keywords are being used to find you, where the people are (think circles around cities, not exact addresses), what device is used (Yes! iPhones, Samsung Tablet, etc.) and what browser is used (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc).

This is what shows up as soon as I log into your analytics. It’s a quick overview. I can click on various parts to learn more information. Is my marketing going where it needs to go? I can work just about anywhere in the USA but I do try to concentrate on Virginia. I’m not interested in other countries. This will tell me if I’m heading in the right direction.

New users are always good news for you! Something you want to look at it is how they are finding you. Organic searches through Google? Paid Google Ads? Clicking links on websites or blogs? From social media and if so, which ones? Analytics will give you those answers.

I do want a low bounce rate. I think of a bounce rate like golf scores. The lower the better. 16% is amazing, like a pro-golf score good. Bouncing means they barely stay on your site, like if they hit the wrong button and leave quickly.

Here is an overview of the differences between new and old visitors.

  • Is your site designed so that people are to stay engaged for a while?
  • Is your site made for quick grab-and-go information?
  • Is your site there just so people can get your phone number, your address, or business hours?

Knowing what your website is designed for will help you determine what your metrics mean. Also, keep in mind that most people have the attention span of squirrel some days. If they are staying on your site for longer than 30 seconds, you’re doing pretty good. Nearly 3 minutes is outstanding!! I want them to learn and get information from my site, so I want them to stay longer.

Here is where you can see all the various pages that are viewed within your site. It breaks it down to how long they visit the page and how popular the page is. Reviewing what pages are being visited can help determine which pages need to be updated, cleaned up, or even removed. Could a popular page be used to push people to another page that needs more attention?
