Manage Your Social Media

I hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas with time to relax and spend time with your family. The holidays are stressful for many reasons including:

  • figuring out a healthy balance of work and play
  • the extra parties and holiday events
  • shopping, baking, and so on
  • tax preparations, end of year numbers
  • and it’s a new year for your business (and new goals)!

HootSuite is a social media management system worth looking into. They allow you to schedule posts, photos, and more to several social media accounts. I’ve written about this before in “Simplifying Social Media“. Now that many of us are thinking about the upcoming year, I thought I’d mention it again. Instead of logging into Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, your blog, Instagram, and any other social media associated with your business, you can consolidate and go to one place to manage it all.

There are many other options out there that are equally good, but HootSuite is the one I use. HootSuite is great because you can write one thing and post it up to three different places for free. If you pay for the platform you post in more locations with more options.

I spent an evening with my husband, eating Chinese, watching a movie, and created a month’s worth of content!! I created posts for just about every day for Facebook, 3-5 posts a day for Twitter, and a post or three for LinkedIn. Some posts are the same for all three social media while some posts were catered to an individual account. Let’s face it, Twitter needs a lot more attention.

You can read the feeds of most of your accounts on Hootsuite. I created tabs that are specific hashtags and searches to streamline my reading and searching efforts. Instead of getting sucked into all the feeds of different social media accounts and losing hours of your day, the tabs keep me focused and moving. Ever get lost in a story feed of a friend and lose 2 hours? HootSuite can prevent that, especially during business hours.

Hootsuite also has an app. In odd places (like waiting in line), I tend to remember something and use their app to schedule a post. Their app isn’t as robust as the desktop version, but it’s still good in a pinch.

I suggest giving it a try. Get those abandoned social media up and running again if you haven’t shut them down yet. It’s free and takes less time than you think. If you fall in love with it, you will find it a great time saver all year, and not just around the holidays.
