Abandoned Social Media
We’ve all done it. We tried a new social media because it seemed to be all the rage (umm G+), but when it came down to it, it wasn’t you. It’s too time-consuming, it’s too hard to learn, it keeps changing everything around and frustrating you, or you stop using it (MySpace anyone?).
Well, if you do that in your personal life, fine. In business, however, that is not a great move. If you have links on your print items, website, or where ever (to… say a Twitter account) and people go there and see that you haven’t posted or responded to anything in 6 months, they are going to question your company. No, it’s not a requirement to post 20 times a day on every social media platform or even daily.
And not all social media is right for everyone. I have advised one client to not use Twitter. He’s way too busy, works outdoors, and he likes his flip phone. (He still hits the “5” key three times to text an L).

I’m not telling you not to try something. I’m saying, try it for a while before adding it to print marketing or your website. If it doesn’t work for you or you don’t like it, close down the account. Please don’t ignore that account and leave it in limbo.
(Note: This is different than reserving social media accounts just in case. If reserving, don’t follow, share, or post anything. Keep it private if possible.)
If you aren’t sure how to use a particular social media, you can give me a call at 804.402.0084 or email me at petrey@petreydishcom. I am happy to sit down with you and teach you a few time-saving steps and better social media practices.
