Going Live - Lessons Learned
I helped my client, Capt. Rob’s Pigalicious Barbecue go live on Facebook. For a small business and first timer, it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great either. Here are some lessons we learned by doing our first Facebook Live.
- Connection to the web is key!! We had terrible service at the location where we were going the live video.
- We were in the country and did not research our connectivity. Poor service causes freezing, blurry imagery, and could cause the audio to go in and out. - Be aware of where the mic is on the device you’re using. I was so focus on being still and quiet, that I may have accidentally covered the tablet’s mic with my finger. The sun was also so bright it was hard to the see the screen to be sure I was going the shot I was looking for (another distraction when it came to the sound.)
- Try not to let the tablet overheat. Overheating the device will cause all sorts of havoc during the live video. Because he’s an outdoor caterer, the Live Video was outdoors. The sun was intense and caused the tablet to overheat and go to sleep MID video!! PANIC!!
- Do a better job of promoting. I created an event on his behalf. I invited some people but he knows better who is more interested in going to his Live Event than I am. I added posts to his event but that wasn’t enough. He’s the voice of his catering company and it would have been beneficial for him to help promote his own Live Event. Ask other friends to invite their friends. It’s live and they can watch from home, so reach out!!
With the lessons we’ve learned, we will do better next time! What lessons have you learned that you’d like to share?
